What Are Nitrates?
Nitrate (NO3) is a naturally occurring form of nitrogen (N) which is
very mobile in water. It is essential for plant growth and is often
added to soil to improve productivity. Water moving down through soil
after rainfall or irrigation carries dissolved nitrate with it to ground
water. In this way, nitrate enters the water supplies of many homeowners
who use wells or springs. Drinking water high in nitrate is potentially
harmful to human and animal health.
Because nitrate is tasteless and odorless, water must be chemically
tested to determine contamination. Your County Health Department and
many private laboratories will test for nitrate.
How Do You Filter Nitrate From
Water?
Nitrates
require a special filter. CuZn Nitrate Water Filters use Cation Resin filters,
which are commonly used
to remove Nitrates. Cation resin is a negatively
charged resin bead that exchanges positively charged ions in the water.
Cation resin is most often used for removing nitrates, plus calcium and
magnesium (hardness) from water.
But CuZn water filtration products don't stop there.
Using
a combination of trace minerals (copper and zinc in the patented form of
KDF®, which meets NSF standards 42 and 61) and coconut shell carbon, the
CuZn Refillable Countertop water filter removes more than 600 contaminants from water, including
chlorine, lead, heavy metals, trihalomethanes (THMs), herbicides and
pesticides much the same as Nature uses the earth and its minerals to
cleanse water. (Unlike carbon-only filters, bacteria can't grow inside
the bacteriostatic CuZn filters!)
The CuZn Nitrate Water Filter for drinking water is also
excellent in situations where sulfur and iron are present and a CuZn
Whole House system is not feasible. Sulfur and iron expends the media
more quickly than other contaminants, so refilling the system is
economical and environmentally responsible.

contaminants that may effect the quality of your water supply. And
unlike carbon only filters, bacteria can't grow inside the
bacteriostatic CuZn filters.
