Manuka Honey Treats Skin Irritation Problems, Athlete Foot, Fungal Infection, Dandruff and More
HONEY REMEDY – UMF ACTIVE MANUKA HONEY

Manuka groves can be found cloaked with an array of dazzling white flowers every year for a short six-week period in the lush valleys of Waikato New Zealand. Buzzing among these flowers, honeybees can be found in great abundance tapping the sweet nectar from the hearts of the Manuka flowers to create a very rare and extraordinary therapeutic grade honey known as UMF active Manuka honey

It takes more than two million Manuka flowers with bees carrying their own weight in nectar and pollen to make just one pound of this golden Manuka honey. Extremely rare, less than two percent of all of the Manuka honey per year is considered active enough to be certified UMF.

HONEY REMEDY UMF Active 15+ Manuka Honey from New Zealand is a rich, sweet, nutritious and tasty food and is one of the most potent therapeutic grade honeys in the world.

What Is an Active Honey?

Honey is produced from a variety of floral sources and its natural antimicrobial activity varies greatly with origin and processing. Generally it is the naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide produced by enzymes in the honey that is slowly released in sufficient enough levels to be effective against bacteria but not enough to cause damage to the tissue.

UMF active Manuka honey has an added benefit specific to its floral source known as UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) that gives it an extremely powerful edge over other honeys. It is so powerful that scientific studies have shown the anti-bacterial activity of UMF active Manuka honey to be more than 100 fold stronger compared to other honey. This sweet treat even has the ability to kill antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria.

In order to determine the antibacterial activity of honey, laboratory testing must be undertaken. Currently only New Zealand Manuka honey as well as an Australian variety are tested and rated for activity. Although honey must have a rating of at least 4 to be considered active, medical professionals in New Zealand and Australia use active Manuka honey with a rating of UMF 10 or higher. A higher level of UMF is preferred for maximum potency. Active Manuka honey is compared with a standard reference antiseptic (phenol) for potency. For example, a honey with a rating of 15 would be equivalent in antiseptic potency to a 15% solution of phenol (carbolic disinfectant).

Honey As a Medicine Throughout the Ages

Traditionally honey has been used as a natural medicine for over 4000 years by a myriad of cultures. The ancient Egyptians used it in at least 500 remedies. Apparently other cultures could clearly see the amazing medicinal benefits from honey as well. The Assyrians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans also prescribed honey for medicinal purposes. It was used for wounds, burns, eye infections, acne, and problems of the stomach. It was even used to successfully treat wounds sustained by soldiers in World War I. As antibiotics and other man made drugs were introduced, the use of honey as a remedy was almost completely forgotten by modern medicine.

Discoveries in the past 20 years are due in large part to the research of Dr. Peter Molan of the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Although he extensively catalogued the effects of honeys ability to heal, he was astounded by the active Manuka honeys powerful ability to be used successfully to kill bacteria and aid the body’s ability to heal wounds and burns.

The benefits of this prized UMF active Manuka honey are turning heads across the medical community and are being used successfully in clinical trials all over the world. Australia has classified UMF active Manuka honey as a therapeutic good. The Journal of Royal Society of Medicine said, “The time has now come for conventional medicine to lift the blinds off this traditional remedy and give it its due recognition”.

Honey Nutrition

Most think of honey as a sweet treat on cereal, toast or in beverages. But this liquid gold is a lot more than just delicious. Raw honey contains many important vitamins, minerals and trace elements that the body is easily able to assimilate for maximum absorbency. Honey offers vitamin A, all of the B-complex vitamins, vitamins C, D, E, K, as well as beta Carotene. Among the mineral salts it offers, Magnesium, sulfur, phosphorus, iron, calcium, chlorine, potassium, iodine, sodium, copper, and manganese.

Honey is full of natural Enzymes extremely important to many internal actions of many systems of the body. In fact honey has one of the highest enzyme contents of all foods. Honey also contains proteins, carbohydrates, organic acids, hormones and of course antimicrobial and antibiotic factors prized throughout the ages for its healing ability

Superior UMF Rating

UMF stands for, “Unique Manuka Factor.”  UMF is the registered trade mark of AMHA. UMF was created to establish an industry standard for the classification of antibacterial honey activity. Laboratory tested batches of Manuka honey are given a UMF rating based on their tested antibacterial activity. The honey research unit in New Zealand endorses a UMF rating of 10 or higher as being suitable for therapeutic purposes. These include treatment of stomach ulcers, gastritis and topically for wounds, burns, soar throat, acne, eczema and cracked skin, to promote hydration and eliminate phlegm.

Due to an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide all honeys are antiseptic with antibacterial properties. Yet Researcher Dr. Molan, has discovered and identified additional antibacterial properties found only in a small amount of Manuka honey from New Zealand.
