The 27 oz. filter bottle is larger and much better for longer trips without having to refill. This sport bottle is made from strong and durable plastic – #4 LDPE (low density polyethylene), the FDA has no warnings about this type of plastic – that will last for many years with repeated use. The filter treats up to 80 gallons of water, which is approximately three months of use under normal conditions. It has two independent filters that are connected by an adapter, allowing the replacement of either filter: 1) a carbon composite for chlorine, bad taste, odor and significant proportions of heavy metals, and 2) Sub-Micron Biological Filter for removal of removal of bacteria, cysts and protozoa.

The Level 2 carbon composite filter removes 90% of the chlorine and aids in the removal of lead, mercury and copper, at a flow rate of 10 ml per second. The carbon composite filter also functions as a pre-filter, reducing small particulate matter and extending the life of the Sub-Micron Biological Filter.

The Sub-Micron Biological Filter removes bacteria, cysts and protozoa from contaminated water. In independent testing conducted in accordance with EPA protocol, the Sub-Micron Biological Filter removed over 99.99% of cysts and 99.9999% bacteria at EPA protocol concentrations. The carbon composite filter also removes the taste of a disinfectant that may be added if viral contamination is suspected.
